Scenes from my room

The cats and I decided to be brainy and watch Scenes from a Marriage the other night, but we all fell asleep.
It wasn't too bad of a movie, but it's in swedish and the reading was more than we could handle. Yes they did drive some badass volvos. And I loved how everything had a slightly washed out 70's look. I think they get divorced.
Hey look! a tiny part of one sleeve. I made this much progress today while I watched The Released on Frontline. I love Frontline and I haven't watched it in ages. Good thing there are plenty of episodes to get me through the other sleeve.
How was y'all's weekend? Mine was just fine despite a lack of crazy fun road trips. We had a lovely little staycation with John's parents. They are really sweet but I'm not surprised. Sunday we saw Star Trek and it was actually entertaining. I know! Did you know there's a new Woody Allen movie with Larry David ? Please don't let it suck...please don't let it suck....please don't let it suck...

Lazy Saturday

It is this kind of day. It's 3:30 and I just got out of the shower. I guess I'm not too lazy, because I did "work" this morning so I've been up since 7:00. It just took me till now to get motivated enough to shower. That's about where the motivation stops because then I put on my owl long john jammies.
You can see I'm getting ready to ball up the other hank of yarn so I can start the sleeves. I've got Love Story ready and I was going to eat the rest of my junior mints but I never learn that if you don't eat all of your junior mints in one sitting, you get this:
Oh well, luckily I have some texas taster crackers to get me through. Yes of course they're jalapeno cheese flavored. Most things here are.

Mmmm...

I love giant fuji apples. Someone I know says apples are his least favorite fruit, but I think that's because he's never had one of these delicious giant fujis. Funny how the least delicious apple is called "red delicious". A cruel joke. I bet the apple Eve ate was a fuji. I mean I would bet that if I believed in that shit.
It's already Friday? This week went by really fast but it was kind of melancholy. There was some sad news, it's been humid and yucky, I'm back to working this weekend...Ew, sorry for the whining.
This morning I wasted a good deal of time watching the Grey's Anatomy season finale. It was even more craptacular than I could have imagined. Melodrama city. I am ashamed of how much I enjoyed it. On the plus side, I did finish the body portion of the owl sweater while I watched. Now it's on to sleeves, the most boring thing to knit ever. Better bust out the Love Story. Speaking of love, I have to apologize to my love Leechat for neglecting to mention that this past Sunday was his birthday. Or at least what I vaguely estimate to be somewhere near his birthday. He's 4! Happy Birthday Leechat. Isn't he the cutest thing?

Post weekend depression

Another weekend extravaganza has come and gone. Now it's Monday, back to the monotony of my weekdays. Hangin' around, drinking coffee and eating breakfast (cobbler bread- good, but not as good as I wanted it to be), wasting time on the computer, listening to Neil Diamond...hey wait, my weekdays aren't too shabby either.
This weekend we went to Cowboy Town (Bandera, TX) and of course it was fantastic. I put some pictures on the flickr thing but the camera batteries were dead for some of the best parts of the trip. This picture is one I stole from the internets of Arkey Blue's Silver Dollar. It doesn't begin to convey the beauty of this place. They had a Dolly Parton pinball machine!!!! Note to self: always always have extra batteries!! Yes, I did some dancin', even though it's hard for me because the girl has to go backwards. Plus I don't have boots. I think the boots make you dance better. Pretty soon it's my birthday...
On the way to cowboy town we saw a sign that said "Cajun Fest". For those of you who don't know and love RG, that would be like me seeing a sign that said "Yarn Documentary" or "Miniature Potatoes". We had no choice but to stop. I don't know much about the Cajuns, but what I've learned so far is they like delicious food, drinking, and dancing. I think we could get along just fine.
Being in the car for a while gave me a chance to make a little progress on the owl sweater. Should be done before the week in December when it will be cold enough to need a wool sweater.
I got a new phone. I've already wasted too much time just trying to figure out how to move my address book (luckily there's a teenager in the house) and someday I'll learn to use the camera. The preset wallpaper is the Blue Angels (?) which is kind of great in the stupidest way. I might leave it.
Speaking of leaving, I do actually have a job, so I guess I should get ready to go. Have a super week, y'all!!!

Imaginary boys

Just because I'm overjoyed with my real-life boyfriend doesn't mean I've stopped loving all my imaginary ones. Conor Oberst with his melodramatic voice and excessive use of the most obvious similes,
Tyler Florence with his delicious foods,
Dave Eggers with his fantastic books and love of Journey,

and Demetri Martin with his geeky word puzzle comedy. (BTW-if you have some time to kill, jump over to youtube and watch his "If I" BBC  special. It rules.)
I've even had time to develop a new imagination crush, but this time it's more on a blog than a man. Just when you thought it couldn't get dorkier, I go and tell you it's the bass player for DCFC! I can't help it. I'm obsessed with his blog, colony collapse. They're on tour now so he hasn't updated it since April, but I still check it every day. Yes, I really do have a real-life boyfriend! I'm not making it up! In fact, if not for my world rockingly great real-life boyfriend I never would have known that my supposed #1 imaginary boyfriend Conor just put out a new record! What a bad imaginary girlfriend I've been. Don't worry, I remedied the situation. I signed up for the Mystic Valley Band e-newsletter and I bought the new record. Surely Conor will understand.

Can this morning be wasted?

Since I think it will be 80+ degrees for the foreseeable future, I decided to get rockin' on the owl sweater. This is straight off the sheep, no dyes. I like it but I forgot how much work is involved when you buy the real stuff. First you have to roll the big hanks (yes that is the technical term) into balls. Seems easy, but it takes forever. Plus it doesn't help when you have to contend with the likes of this guy:
Don't worry, only 35 minutes later everything turned out ok. Ready to go. You can still see Notlee in the background. He gave up and went to sleep. I almost did too.
Other ways I wasted my morning away: I had to go buy a new tire, since yesterday I just happened to notice that there were little metal wires poking out of the one on the back left side. Knowing me it had been this way for months, but I guess the Texas sun was shining just right and you know I'm distracted by shiny things. It was pretty painless for a car related activity. I read the  "Can this marriage be saved?" column in Ladies Home Journal. Turns out it could. Phew. They told the wife to greet her husband every evening with a hug. She said she forced herself to do it but after a while it seemed to help. How romantic.
Speaking of romance, I just fell in love with this video.
What are the degrees of separation between doing something productive and finding stuff like this, you ask? Well, I am on many many e-mail lists but one I actually read is the Urban Eye from the NYT. It tells me all the cool stuff I can do this week in New York. If I can get there by tonight, I can go see this dude's show. He's a one man band from Sweden. I'm not sure I'm that into the song but the video is beautiful.

Miniature weekend=gigantic fun!

Hey y'all, did you miss me? I'm back from celebrating my holy day, The Texas Miniature Showcase. Previously TMS was a one-day solitary event. Just me, driving to Dallas, admiring table after table of tiny stuff, and then driving back home. But in the new and improved post-Stark world, it became a weekend long celebration of epic proportions.
TMS 2009 kicked off Friday with a special Death Cab show just for miniature aficionados. Aw, if that were true, I would have been the only person there. As with all DCFC events, it was for white college kids. (In the dark I could pass!) And while I was sans-Stark at the show itself (he has good taste in music) he did drop me off and pick me up so I didn't have to park downtown. (Heart swelling with love).
You're right, I DID stand in line for quite a while to buy a shirt. But come on, a cat? Double dorky goodness. Plus if you know me, you know I was there way early so I had time to kill. If you really know me you're wondering why I would go to a DC show because you know I hate Ben's irritating guitar swinging thing he does the whole time. True, but he only did it about 80% of the time, and let's just say my tolerance was increased due to my liquid dinner. Btw, as the kids say, did you notice he's rocking my haircut? Silly.
Miniature Day itself did not disappoint. This year it was in a different hotel, the Elegante. Pretty elegant, if you consider a nursing home elegant. But there were two rooms of minis this year, and they did have a very manly bar where we were able to watch the Kentucky Derby. (Too bad I left my beer hat in the car). Best miniature show ever!
Saturday night we stayed at the Belmont in Dallas. Fantastic. There was even a TMS lightning storm. The atmosphere during miniature weekend was electric!
Sunday we met John's parents at the Dallas Art museum to see the king tut exhibit. Even though it's all over the place, the gold mask thing isn't there. Apparently it's too fragile to leave Egypt. The rest of the stuff is pretty amazing though. It was fun. Y'all know I love museums.
I did a mediocre job of taking pictures, which you can check on the ol' "flickr thing"
Hey look! I got the yarn for the owl sweater. I had to go pick it up at the post office. I was thinking, "Why do I have to pick this up? Yarn fits in the mailbox, right?" Nope. It's huge!
It's from jimmybeanswool. They rule because they give you Jolly Ranchers!
I also got this yarn for socks that may or may not ever exist. The colors remind me of something from my childhood, but I can't figure out exactly what. Any ideas?
Notlee enjoyed the bag of yarn even more than I did. He's a pain but isn't he cute?
There's so much more I could tell you about TMS weekend, like our visit to Lee Harvey's, a bar with a spectacular beer light collection (including some groovy afro-centric ones: dy-no-mite!) but I really should take a shower before I go out into the world. Maybe if you call me I can tell you all about it. Happy Monday, y'all!
